” I was taking a break in a small restaurant in the centre of Tai O when a woman dressed entirely in red walked in and immediately caught my attention. Her vivid clothing created a striking contrast with the restaurant’s otherwise muted tones. The foreground framing, together with the negative space on the left, naturally guides the viewer’s eye in the direction of her gaze, inviting it to explore the setting: the simple furniture, the calligraphy, the fan, and the Chinese New Year decorations. These elements firmly anchor the image in the everyday life of Hong Kong during the festive season. I deliberately enhanced the colour saturation and contrast to give the photograph greater visual impact.”
