Tai O, Lantau Island, Hong Kong.

“I was walking through the fishing village of Tai O on Lantau Island during the 2026 Chinese New Year celebrations when this scene immediately caught my eye. The man, framed by the two open door panels and set against weathered, timeworn walls, already seemed to be telling a story. The bicycle in the foreground naturally leads the viewer’s eye toward the subject standing in the doorway, his gaze directed straight at the camera. Together, they invite the viewer to step, symbolically, across the threshold into his world. I deliberately enhanced the colour saturation and contrast to reinforce the photograph’s atmosphere, making it feel both authentic and timeless.”

Tiphaine Beausseron is a French photographer based in Hong Kong after having lived in Paris, Aix-en-Provence, London and Winchester in the UK. Tiphaine explores the city through the people who inhabit it and give it its character. Her photographs have a poetic minimalism that is attentive to a single thread, what she calls, “the invisible bond that persists, even within the apparent solitude of an urban scene.”
