Mehroo Turel, Professional Certified Coach and Founder of community group Mums@PLAY.

A peruse of Mehroo Turel’s biography and the question that comes to mind is, what hasn’t she done? Best known as the founder of community group, Mums@PLAY, Turel is a natural at hosting bazaars, weekly pop-ups, business workshops and networking events for mums. “Building a community has always been at the heart of what we do, and we’ve grown organically over the years,” she says.

As for so many, motherhood was a pivotal point for Turel. With an MBA in marketing, Turel had worked with the Tata Group in India as a TAS officer, where she had performed roles in sales and marketing. Once a mother from 2004, however, she took a sabbatical to raise her children, moving to Hong Kong in 2007. Later, in 2017, she founded Mums@PLAY, an events and community platform that supports and empowers women entrepreneurs.

“Since launching Mums@PLAY in 2017, we’ve hosted friendly bazaars, weekly pop-ups, business workshops, and networking events for women. Building a community has always been at the heart of what we do, and we’ve grown organically over the years.” Mums@PLAY has hosted over 50 events connecting over 5,500+ people, both online and offline.

A second pivotal point for Turel was Covid. “When COVID-19 paused many activities, I took the opportunity to reflect and pivot my focus through coaching, becoming a certified coach. My niche is supporting women leaders and entrepreneurs who seek to enhance their personal and professional lives with clarity and confidence.”

Today, Turel is a Professional Certified Coach by International Coach Federation (ICF-PCC), a Mental Fitness Coach and a Board member of ICF Hong Kong. Being an entrepreneur, a community builder and a hands-on mother, she focuses on coaching high-potential women leaders, enabling them to find their inner strength and confidence, supporting them through career transitions and empowering them to lead a balanced and fulfilling life.

“I believe that every woman is a leader in her own right and that is determined not by the title that she carries but by the role that she plays,” she says.

A key strength, according to her, is her passion to connect with people, bridging gaps between communities and fostering a sense of unity, for which she has talent. Another strength, is her drive, seen in and cultivated by an active lifestyle: hiking or walking her pet dog. She is the perfect depiction of all she seeks to enable in her clients and makes juggling entrepreneurship with motherhood as an expat look easy.

Turel’s coaching clients include senior-level women executives who find themselves at pivotal career crossroads, seeking both clarity and direction, ambitious entrepreneurs who aspire to embark on new ventures or elevate existing businesses and motivated individuals who need assistance in navigating challenges, reducing stress, building resilience and enhancing their overall well-being.

Mums@PLAY has arranged numerous events.
Bringing people together is her forte.

Turel offers four coaching programmes: Back to Work; Visibility Breakthrough; Mental Fitness; and Personalized Coaching Program.

“Coaching can help you detangle your thoughts, make you more focused and more aware of what you really need, what is missing and what is not,” says Turel, adding that coaching helps identify your strengths, overcome your weaknesses and guide you on a path of action with commitment and accountability.

For those who wish to dip a toe in, before committing themselves, Turel has a useful FAQ section on her website which lays out the usual coaching journey from discovery to goal setting and a set of 6, 8, or 12 sessions.

Turel has also written a short guide ‘7 Simple Steps to Unlock your Powerful Personal Brand,’ that, she says, empowers individuals to find their inner strength and develop strong personal and professional identities; and then there’s her personal blog, ‘From Miss India to Motherhood, which she started over a decade ago and which chronicles her journey from being a model and ‘an almost Miss India’ to the present.

But, Turel is the first to say that coaching is not about her but her clients. Rather than pontificate, she is quick to enquire what their pain points are, arriving at the Heart of the Matter.

What’s the best work advice you have received?

“The best work advice has been from my sister who runs a successful transport and construction material business all by herself,” says Mehroo Turel.

“She said: ‘Business is all about ups and downs, but if you never it give a go, you will never know!’

She’s also told me to just keep going. The road may be bumpy, but focus and move ahead and change with times, she’s said.

Seeing how others perceive things is always interesting.”
