Share

Sami Ullah is a first generation Pakistani who was born in Hong Kong. A higher diploma holder of Sports and Recreation, he is currently taking a gap year to teach Early Learner English. When he’s not working, he enjoys eating at food courts and hanging with his friends.

How long have you lived where you live?

I have lived in Kwai Chung for almost 22 years and was born here.

Can you see yourself anywhere else?

Yes. I wouldn’t mind living elsewhere. I can adapt to change, and, if I were to move, I would like to move to a rural area in Hong Kong or somewhere else.

What’s so great about your home/neighbourhood?

There are many friends living nearby, easy access to all facilities such as malls, a library, a sports ground and there’s convenient public transport.

Best little known gems?

Kwai Chung is a great place to live with its vast landscape and different parks, hiking routes and places such as the Shing Mun Water Dam, Tai Mo Shan, Lai King Hill

Best places to eat breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner?

As a Muslim, I have to eat halal, and personally prefer to eat at Pakistani restaurants in the food court of Dragon Centre, Sham Shui Po. For example, I like to go to Lahore Kebab Garden or House of Spice; or, in Tsim Sha Tsui, for example the Kebab House in Chung King Mansions, where I can have the food of my homeland.

I usually have paratha and chai for breakfast at home, and go to restaurants for lunch and dinner. Pakistani cuisine never disappoints me.

Best places to drink coffee/find a drink?

I would say Fairwood or Cafe de Coral. Simple and good.

Best other hangouts?

Parks! Going to any kind of park just lifts my mood and makes me feel so much fresher after a long, tiring day. Whether it’s the recreation area underneath, on the ground floor of my estate, basketball grounds or theme parks, all are good places to hang out with friends, colleagues and family!

What’s true/not true about your neighbourhood?

Some may think this place is a bit violent, but this is untrue. Kwai Chung is generally very peaceful.
