Book Review: The Husbands

By Holly Gramazio, Blacksmith Books (2024)

An excellent exponent of the magic realism genre, author Holly Gramazio spins a good yarn in this funky, chunky debut novel.

The husbands is a hysterical book, that’ll be picked up or gifted for its premise: a woman finds out that her previously very normal attic, contains super powers — you can send in your husband and it will generate a whole new man and life for you!

If you ever wonder what life might have been like with ‘the one who got away’ or simply fantasise about escaping from your own ‘ball and chain situation’, and have a holiday away from your spouse, then this one’s for you!

The husbands is a comedy, but one which does throw up some interesting questions, for example, how and why we pick our spouses and if, when and why we should send them to the attic.
