Have Your Say – Tina Mehra-Joshi

Share

Tina Mehta-Joshi is a newish arrival in Hong Kong who arrived via Dubai, where she lived for almost two decades. After the desert, she’s loving the flora around Parkview, where she lives and likes to eat and spend her leisure time.

How long have you lived where you live?

I moved to Hong Kong a year 14 months ago after a having lived in Dubai for 18 years. It was quite a cultural and environmental change. I have lived in Parkview near the Tai Tam Country Park since the last year.

Can you see yourself anywhere else?

Moving from the desert in Dubai, I absolutely fell in love with greenery that my neighbourhood had to offer. We have so many hiking trails starting right at our doorstep that I doubt if I will ever move from here.

What’s so great about your home/neighbourhood?

My neighbourhood is full of greenery, trails and, above all, a great community spirit. We celebrate many occasions together and people are always there to support each other.

Best little known gems?

The Ming Yuen is a fabulous Cantonese restaurant and they serve the best roast pork belly ever!

Best places to eat breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner?

The breakfast at the Hong Kong Cricket Club is great. A lovely walk through the country park leads to Stanley, where Panna latte serves a great brunch. George’s at the Parkview Clubhouse has amazing steaks.

Best places to drink coffee/find a drink?

The whiskey bar at the Parkview Clubhouse has a very rare collection of whiskeys and is amazing for a quick drink right on our doorstep.

Best other hangouts?

A short bus ride gets us into Wan Chai, where the Japanese shaved ice cream place is amazing: After You Dessert Cafe.

The best, soul-satisfying dumplings and wanton can be found at Yuan Ji Yun Jiao. They serve warm hugs in a bowl.

What’s true/not true about your neighbourhood?

People think that Parkview can be a bit hard to get to, but this isn’t true: there is a shuttle bus service every 10 minutes from Central. What is absolutely true about about our neighbourhood is that it’s name translates as ‘Flower on the hill’, a name that is bang on.
