Have Your Say – Simone Chau

How long have you lived where you live?

Half a year.

Can you see yourself anywhere else?

Yes I can. Ever since I was around 20, I have been moving around to find a place I can comfortably live. Half a year ago, I found the opportunity to share a flat. It just so happens that it was in Tseun Wan.

After growing up in Tsing Yi, then living in Kwun Tong and Quarry Bay, I was able to experience a district and neighbourhood I would never have been able to if I weren’t living here.

At the moment, I believe there are places I would still like to live and experience, where I would be able to discover hidden neighbourhood gems, the different hues of “人情味”, etc.

What’s so great about your home/neighbourhood?

Tsuen Wan lives up to its name as Hong Kong’s ‘天空之城’. If the weather is not ideal, it doesn’t deter me much from going where I want. It’s very convenient with multiple major buildings and landmarks, including over 20 shopping centres!

I am also fast-paced – and the bridges, being wider than a lot of Hong Kong sidewalks, create good crowd flow, so it’s comfortable navigating the hustle and bustle.

Best little known gems?

I don’t feel like I’ve explored enough yet to share…

Best places to eat breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner?

For a more local feel, 餃子屋 in Tsuen Chong Centre is a great place for a warm meal.

I recently discovered a vegetarian restaurant Friends of Years 素年 and tried out their All-day Breakfast as a late afternoon meal. It’s a really great spot to chill (They even gave me a tiny apple in a cute box!).

If I were to pick a spot to sit all afternoon chatting or working, Cozy Coffee is my go-to. It’s situated in one of the more quiet places in the Mills

Best places to drink coffee/find a drink?

I don’t really drink coffee so cannot vouch for the coffee quality per se, but because Tseun Wan has always been one of my favourite districts, I know that there are cute coffee shops in the Mills.

Best other hangouts?

For nature lovers, if it counts, the district’s hiking trails are great! Like “元荃古道”, “大帽山郊野公園”, “城門郊野公園”, etc.

I also like the beaches stretched out along Ting Kau, because despite being rather easy to get to, there are actually not as many people as the ones in Hong Kong island.

What’s true/not true about your neighbourhood?

It’s nice to live at the starting point of an MTR line.
