Claire Han is from Mainland China and came here to study at HSUHK. Currently in her third year of studying a Finance and Banking degree, she intends to stay on in Hong Kong after she graduates.

How long have you lived where you live?

I have been living in my university dorm, in City One, Sha Tin, for almost three years now. The area offers a blend of urban convenience and natural beauty, surrounded by the mountains. The combination of amenities and picturesque landscapes creates a good environment for study and relaxation.

Can you see yourself anywhere else?

Yes, I can definitely see myself living on the Island, near Causeway Bay, after I finish university. I believe that this area truly represents Hong Kong and its culture. The vibrant atmosphere, bustling markets and culinary scene capture the spirit of the city.

What’s so great about your home/neighbourhood?

One of the great things about my home at the university dorm, is that I’m constantly surrounded by friends and schoolmates. Living with them creates a strong sense of community. I can easily chill with them anytime, whether it’s for studying, sharing meals or just hanging out and having fun.

Best little known gems?

One of the best little-known gems near my university is the beautiful hiking trails that wind through the nearby mountains. They offer stunning views of the area and are perfect for a peaceful escape from university life.

Best places to eat breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner?

One of the best places to eat in the area is New Town Plaza, which offers a diverse range of dining options for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner. For breakfast, you can start your day with a delicious meal at one of the local cafes that serve everything from traditional Hong Kong-style milk tea and toast to Western-style breakfasts.

For brunch, there are various restaurants that offer hearty dishes, including fresh salads and brunch classics like Eggs Benedict.

When it comes to lunch, the Food Court is a great option, featuring a wide variety of cuisines, from local favourites like dim sum to international dishes.

For dinner, New Town Plaza has several sit-down restaurants where you can enjoy a more upscale-dining experience, including options for Asian fusion, Italian and more. The lively atmosphere and diverse menu make it a perfect spot for any meal throughout the day.

Best places to drink coffee/find a drink?

One of the best places to grab a coffee in the area is Starbucks, located conveniently within New Town Plaza. It’s a popular spot where you can enjoy a variety of coffee beverages. The cozy atmosphere makes it a great place to relax, study or catch up with friends.

Best other hangouts?

One of the best things in the area is to take a leisurely walk along the Shek Mun River. This path offers a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of university life. The riverside is lined with trees and greenery, creating a peaceful atmosphere that’s perfect for unwinding or having a chat with friends. You can see people slowing down and actually enjoying their life there.

What’s true/not true about your neighbourhood?

What’s true about my neighborhood is that it’s quiet and convenient. Many residents are older, but they are generally friendly and welcoming. While some might think that an older population means a lack of vibrancy, that’s not true here. The mix of students and long-term residents creates a lively community dynamic that adds to the charm of the area.
