I’ve been living in Kennedy Town for 4 years, now.
You never know where your current journey takes you, I could see myself living in Lamma as it provides many opportunities for families and an ever growing community and a nature that we miss, since we have been living in the city.
I admire the people, humanity and accessibility. We have it all – the students, the elderly, the wet market, the trams, the promenade and the massively touristic “Insta spots” at the Praya. I’m so grateful for public spaces such as the library and the opportunity to bring my kids to the free playroom, when the weather is not pleasant.
Me and my husband love going to the Golden Scene Cinema for a date. It has such a character and is always easy to pop in and pop out. The restaurants come and go, but our absolute favourite is nearby the HKU station called HoHon Eatery – that is an absolute gold to us – cosy and fabulous food, small menu that does not overwhelm you with choices. I am not sure if it still remains as a “little known” however, I love going for a walk to the Sai Wan Ho swimming shed, it is a very photogenic spot, hidden under the stairs just off the main road, above Kennedy Town. I also love bringing my kids to the Pok Fu Lam Playground and of course the waterfront. Not many people know about the Belcher’s Waterfalls path as well, but make sure to bring your mosquito spray!
My favourite walk is to go up to the Peak from Pokfield Road or on the Mt. Davis Path. During summer, the public swimming pool is great as it has a children’s pool with slides. Centennial Garden is great for you after lunch coffee, sit down and unwind. And I think that visiting and seeing the biggest Wellcome in Hong Kong at the Belcher’s is quite an experience as well.
I think that Kennedy Town is visited by tourists that just find these random spots that become viral and then everyone else is doing the same thing. I feel like there is so much more to it. It is definitely a family oriented area, easy to relax into if you had some wild/busy time in Central. Small shops and businesses sadly come and go way too quickly, but luckily the community remains the same and it’s always very pleasant to bump into familiar faces on a daily basis.
