Have Your Say – Bee Chan

Bee Chan is a waitress living  in Tsuen Wan East with her family.

How long have you lived where you live?

I have been living in Tsuen Wan East for two years.

Can you see yourself anywhere else?

Yes, because I am looking for a better living environment. I might move around Hong Kong in the future, but I probably won’t emigrate.

What’s so great about your home/neighbourhood?

There is a sports area behind my home where people often cycle or play ball games there. The sea is just opposite. There are many pick-up points nearby, making transportation convenient and  commuting easy.

Best little known gems?

The first thing that comes to my mind is the bicycle path along the Tsuen Wan Waterfront. It is a 2.3 km cycle track connecting Tsuen Wan Riviera Park to Bayview Garden. And, Wu Chung Swimming Pool. Not many people go there! Also, almost all of the shopping malls in Tseun Wan have a Jumpin Gym, which is good for those with kids!

Best places to eat breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner?

For breakfast, I like going to Café De Papa, situated at Belvedere Garden. It provides numerous choices and I usually order the daily specials. I always go to SOYmart for lunch, as I like drinking soy milk there. My second option for lunch is May Café. I like eating their siu mei (燒味) and the staff service is pretty good! For dinner, I like Fu Doo Restaurant. Their Curry Beef Brisket Rice is really tasty!

Best places to drink coffee/find a drink?

McCafé and Starbucks. I also suggest checking out some of the cafés hidden in Tsuen Wan’s industrial areas, and there are also cat cafés right in the centre of Tsuen Wan, like Cats Tea Room and Nekos Cafe.

Best other hangouts?

I recommend Yi Pei Square Dai Pai Dong (二陂坊大排檔). It is a classic example of a traditional dai pai dong, where you can enjoy authentic local street food in a lively and relaxed setting. It’s definitely worth a visit if you want a true Hong Kong food experience!

What’s true/not true about your neighbourhood?

Our community, Tsuen Wan, really does offer different kinds of food and our shopping malls are connected by footbridges. Although people often think that footbridges are handy, if you know the shortcuts, walking on street level can actually be quicker!
